Its a pity the disaster that befell the Pioneer Resort (closed, demolished and abandoned). It was a slightly tired hotel conference facility in need of a facelift which was demolished for some half-baked, overblown and underfinanced hare-brained condominium scheme. My family stayed there many times, mostly in June. The service was never that great. The rooms are at most average. We get the room which face both the lake and river. Pioneer Inn occupies prime property on Lake Winnebago, which is also the site of the Pioneer Inn Marina. The lake views are very nice - and the grounds are reasonably well-maintained.
