Great scenery, but hotel in need of rennovation
We recently stayed at Illinois Beach Resort, following a day at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee. We chose Illinois Beach Resort for two reasons - 1) It was listed as a hotel close to Six Flags and 2) We have had good experiences at other State Resort parks we've visited in Illinois and Kentucky with our two boys. Our expectations were based on experiences at those other types of state park resorts. Illinois Beach Resort is nestled along the shore of Lake Michigan in the Illinois Beach State Park - north of Chicago. Pros • Views of Beach were very nice • Campfires on beach at night • Private beach area – adjacent to public beach area (no life guards) • Beach was well-maintained. Only “trash” we saw were seagull feathers. • Covered pull-through for loading/unloading • Desk and restaurant personnel courteous • Queen size beds in the room were comfortable • Pillows were comfortable • Pay ... Right on the Beach!
We live in the area, and use the resort to house overnight guests and as our fitness center. The pool area and fitness center (which isn’t very big, but nice) were renovated a few years ago. Great location right ... nicknpick, a user of Tripadvisor. Read full review on tripadvisor
