Located 45 minutes from the Monterey Peninsula by car, just outside of San Martin, the property (whose name derives from the Spanish phrase meaning 'heart of the valley') encompasses 1,700 acres shaded by oaks and sycamores and surrounded by verdant meadows. Public facilities and guest accommodations (consisting of just 45 spacious, private bungalows, villas, and houses) pay homage to Frank Lloyd Wright with Craftsman-style architecture incorporating exposed pine and redwood. Open only to those staying at the property and their invited guests, the 5,000-square-foot (465 square meters) luxury spa resembles an exclusive country club. In addition to the spa and its fully equipped fitness center, the resort boasts an array of on-site recreation options that belies its small guest size.
