There are lots of upstate hotels in this price range that are individually run (not part of a chain) that are great to stay in. more on CitySearch

Returning from Montreal, I got off the highway too tired to keep driving and saw the Budget Inn sign, checked in and the room was, easily, the dirtiest, smelliest, moldiest room that I have ever seen--any room of any kind. more on CitySearch
