Steep Creek Bench - Boulder Campground

Steep Creek Bench This .5 mile loop road is a segment of the original Burr Trail road, prior to widening and paving. Several good camp sites are available. W->E: 7.6 miles from Highway 12 (1.3 mi. east of Deer Creek Campground) turn left (north) onto the dirt side road which proceeds north-east E->W: Ascending the Burr Trail from The Gulch, continue in the direction towards Boulder. as the road winds around and begins to descend towards Deer Creek campground, turn right (north) onto the dirt road approximately .1 mi. past the yellow "15mph" road sign. To site: Proceed on dirt road to any of several sites on the right (north) side of the road. Please stay on the existing roadway, do not make any new tracks, and avoid damaging the cryptobiotic soil crust abundant in the area. Note that the east end of this loop road is extremely sandy where it re-joins the Burr Trail pavement. High clearance is recommended for this last ten yards; otherwise, exit from the entry point on the west end.
