Directions

From Sierraville, head north on State Highway-89 for 9 miles, to the town of Calpine. Look for a sign on the left side of the road, 1.5 miles past Calpine. Through gate, it is 1.5 miles to lookout.

Miscellaneous

• Additional Info: Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. Calpine L.O. is accessible by an improved Forest Service Road. Passenger cars are not recommended. Weather conditions and snow may cause early seasonal road closure or late spring opening. Vehicles may get snowed in during late fall snow storms. The facility is ideally suited for over-snow ski or snow mobile access. Please call Sierraville RD for current conditions, 530-994-3401. All users must check-in at Sierraville RD to check-out the gate key and cab key. Wildlife is abundant. All food must be kept in secured containers. Lightning may be a hazard during summer storms. Discount Passes are not accepted for this facility.
