If my kids were selecting the hotel for a Hawaiian vacation, I’m pretty sure they’d dial down to the Westin Maui Resort and Spa. Everyone in our family loves snorkeling in the ocean, but it’s the outdoor water playground that would seal the deal for my kids. With five pools to choose from, including a 120 foot super waterslide, I know my 13 year old would be all over the swim through grotto with twin waterfalls, while my 17 year old would be lounging in the hidden whirlpool when she wasn’t tanning on Ka’anapali Beach.

Alas, the kids and husband are not with me this trip, so I will not be enjoying this jewel of a resort, set on 12 oceanfront acres. With 758 newly renovated guest rooms and suites, five restaurants and lounges and a $5 million luxury spa, this place is the cat’s meow. While I don’t recommend you bring your kitty to Hawaii, dogs are welcome at this pet-friendly island paradise. In fact a Heavenly Dog Bed is available upon request.

If I were smart, I’d circle back to Maui with my family during whale watching season. I’d book room #972, a premium deluxe ocean view room with a king or double bed and a sofabed. The bargain hunter in me can’t pass up a single room because kids 18 and under stay free with parents. If  When we do come back here, I’d want my husband to meet the Director of Romance at the Westin. Perhaps he’d give him some useful tips like mentioning that the Tahitian Princess specialty cocktail, a blend of Ocean vodka infused with pineapple and Tahitian vanilla bean, orange curacao and fresh pineapple, is a great way to start a lunch looking over the beach. There are tons of dining options in the Kaanapali area.

Judging from my recent trip, I should probaby reserve a Sunburn Relief Massage from the Heavenly Spa after a day of snorkeling.
