Washington Square Hotel

Visitors to New York City will be hard pressed to find a better lodging deal in Greenwich Village than the Washington Square Hotel. Situated near New York University and Washington Square Park, the charming neighborhood is home to students, Bohemians, artists, professionals and the Washington Square Hotel.

Bohemians to Rockers at the Washington Square Hotel

Built in 1902 and originally named the Hotel Earle, the Washington Square Hotel has been a haven for actors, writers and musicians. Legends such as Ernest Hemingway, Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Bill Cosby, Joan Baez and the B-52’s have bedded down at the Washington Square Hotel. Today, the family-owned Washington Square Hotel hosts guests from the United States and abroad

I found myself in New York attending a TBEX travel bloggers conference. A native San Franciscan, the New York summer humidity caught me by surprise. Upon arrival to Greenwich Village, I stopped by the 150 room hotel in the early morning to drop my bag. To my delight, the welcoming front desk staff informed me that my deluxe queen room, $275, was available before 3 p.m. check in.

A welcoming blast of cool air greeted me in room #122. My previous night stay at the Larchmont Hotel also had air conditioning. The $150 step up in price at the Washington Square Hotel gave me my own bathroom, in room complimentary high speed Internet, access to a business center, fitness room, laundry services (for an extra fee) and an excellent full breakfast at the North Square Restaurant.

New York Foodies

Well funded foodies will want to make advance reservations at Mario Batali’s Babbo restaurant, located across the street from the Washington Square Hotel at 110 Waverly Place. Those dining on their own dime will find plenty of affordable options nearby and the subway is steps from the hotel.

Solo Women Travelers

Solo female travelers will feel safe walking the Greenwich Village neighborhood at night. The subway is conveniently located nearby at the West Fourth Street station.
