Wanaka-springs-lodgeOn a New Zealand road trip down the west coast of the South Island, you’ll discover delightful lodging options. But none come with the personal attention that Lynn and Murray Finn provide at Wanaka Springs Lodge. At least that’s what my husband and I found on our New Zealand road adventure.

Wanaka Springs Lodge sits on a hill in a quiet residential neighborhood overlooking Wanaka. An outside deck, surrounded by a flower-filled garden, provides mountain and lake views. It’s a pleasant setting for the cocktail hour that Lynn and Murray host for guests.

Inside, fire logs burn in the guest lounge on wintry days. With a large book collection and entertainment system, you’ll be tempted to stay and relax. At the end of your day’s adventure, soak in the secluded 8-person hot tub. If you’d rather check on family at home, a computer is provided for your use in the guest office. Did you bring a laptop? The wireless internet is free.

bedroom-wanaka-springsWanaka Springs Lodge offers eight bedrooms, each with a private bath. I enjoyed the fine linens on the bed as well as the plush robes hanging in the bathroom. The heated towel racks were a nice touch too.

Breakfast, included in the rate, is a treat. Guests mingle at the large kitchen table while Lyn and Murray scurry about, preparing dishes made to order. They’ll also offer advice on area activities.  It’s a short walk down into the town of Wanaka where tour operators offer jet boat rides, hiking tours or ski adventures during the winter.

Wanaka Springs Lodge has received the “Qualmark 4 star plus” rating, a system used in New Zealand to indicate outstanding accommodations. I definitely agree.
