I’ve got a soft spot for hotels with great art: short of checking into a room with bloody bed sheets, if a hotel’s doing better than hanging prints of frolicking water fowl on its walls, I’m generally happy.
The art collection at Petit Ermitage, a boutique hotel in West Hollywood, Calif. named after The Hermitage museum in Mother Russia, ranges from the 17th century to contemporary times and includes work from Joan Miró, Willem De Kooning and Salvador Dali. And unlike many other hotels with world-class art, it doesn’t just hang in the common areas, but it’s displayed in the guest suites as well.
More into the natural world than the man-made one? The Private Rooftop Club is a recognized by the National Wildlife Federation as a preserve for hummingbirds and butterflies.
Petit Ermitage treats its guests as well as its art and winged residents too. 618 thread count sheets top Thermo‐pedic and bamboo mattresses in all suites, most of which also include fireplaces. And for guests staying in the 11 suites in the top floor’s Masters Quarters, there’s a butler on hand (no word on whether he’ll provide you with a butterfly net).
Rates start at $150.
