The Shaw House was built by the city founder of Ferndale for his bride in 1854. The Victorian architecture is part of what makes Ferndale such a popular tourist destination on the North Coast, and the Shaw House is the oldest Victorian in Ferndale.

This Carpenter Gothic Revival was modeled after Hawthorn’s house of seven gables. It has received the Best Garden Award and Most Historical Charm Award in Arrington’s Book of Lists. The one-acre cottage garden is a lovely place for an afternoon stroll or quiet meditation.

The Shaw House is just a block or two from downtown Ferndale, a tiny city with a local reperatory theatre, boutiques, galleries, and the Wildcat Wine Shoppe which serves flights of local and regional wines or wines by the glass. Curly’s, a popular local restaurant, is an easy walk down Main Street.
