Usually when looking for bargain lodging in New York City, one has to settle for either a hostel or a run-down hotel. Well, I’ve run across something that falls in between.

A Standard Cabin at The Jane Hotel

The Jane is a cute boutique-style hotel in the West Village. Built in 1908, it has a long history of housing visitors to the city. In 2008, it underwent a renovation by new owners into what it is today. That included a themed decor thsy resembles luxury train cabins.

Of course, if you’ve ever been in a train cabin, you know how tiny they can be.

Standard rooms at The Jane come with a single-size bed, flat-screen TV, DVD player, free WiFi and more all in the space of approximately 50-sq-ft. The catch comes in that all standard (and the few bunkbed cabins they have) share communal bathrooms at the end of the hall on each floor. Think of it as an upscale dormitory/hostel set-up. Rates for these tiny rooms start at $99 normally.

For those that want a larger sleeping space, or don’t want to share a bathroom, they have rooms called the “Captain’s Cabin” that offer either a full, queen or king bed, and private bathrooms with rainfall showerheads. These usually start at $250 a night

If you’re intriqued and want to try out the hotel, for the remainder of March, The Jane is offering their standard cabins for only $69 a night (plus tax). Captain’s cabins are also on special, starting at $179 a night.

This special is only available directly via The Jane Hotel website.
