Super 8 Motel Anchorage

Super 8 Motel Anchorage

From Nancy D. Brown of What a Trip

One of the things that I hate about traveling is arriving at my destination early in the morning.  We’re talking 1 a.m. early in the morning.  In my mind, you haven’t officially started your trip, but you still have to pay full price for the motel room, even though you are only going to use the room for a couple of hours.  The coupon clipper in me thinks we should get a discount.  I realize that the room still has to be cleaned if you sleep in the bed for ten minutes or ten hours, but my budget travel mentality simply can’t justify the expense.

King Salmon Fishing in Alaska

For the last couple of years, my husband and I have flown to Alaska for a long weekend of King Salmon fishing in June.  We fly non-stop from San Francisco (SFO) to Anchorage.  We usually arrive early in the morning and then have to get up after a couple of hours of sleep to catch the float plane to our fishing lodging. After searching the web and reading reviews, I settled on the Super 8 Motel in Anchorage, Alaska.  Nothing in Alaska is cheap, but the Super 8 is clean, offers a complimentary shuttle, free high speed internet, is close to the Lake Hood Seaplane Base and is relatively affordable for my budget. It’s also located three miles from downtown Anchorage and four miles from the airport.  The website notes that pets are allowed.

Moose on the Loose

Alaskan Moose

Alaskan Moose

While I don’t remember much about our hotel room, I do remember seeing a huge moose on the side of the road.  He was munching on some grass like he didn’t have a care in the world.  Our van driver said that the moose have the ride of way in Alaska because they can cause a lot of damage to vehicles.  He also said you want to steer clear of any moose if you have an encounter because they will charge at you.  My safety tip for the day.
