What’s more New Orleans than a sweet inn with wrought iron balconies? A sweet inn with wrought iron balconies above a great bar. The Royal Street Inn & R Bar calls itself a bed and beverage: “first class hotel rooms above, badass bar below. And no breakfast.”
Located in the Faubourg Marigny, right next to the French Quarter, the Royal Street Inn has only five rooms—but all are suites. Choose between the attic-like La Sirena Suite (with a stained-glass mermaid window), Marigny Suite (at ground level, in case climbing staircases isn’t your bag), Mississippi Suite (long, like a classic shotgun house), Storyville Suite (with balcony access) or the high-rolling Royal Suite (with balcony access, and it sleeps up to six adults). While the suites have different characteristics, all of them feature HDTV with DVD players, iPod docks and wireless Internet.
Rates range from $75 to $225 on weekdays and $99 to $279 on weekends. Higher rates may apply during major events, such as Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest.
When you need some company, mosey on downstairs to the R Bar. Get a haircut and a shot for $10 on Mondays, sample a crawfish boil on Fridays (during crawfish season, that is), or just hang around and soak in the atmosphere. Like the Earl King song says, there “ain’t no city like New Orleans.”
