Royal Lahaina Resort, A Perfect Maui, Hawaii Vacation
Post by Nancy D. Brown of What a Trip
Attention honeymooners, babyboomers or anyone hoping to ditch the kiddie pool on the Kaanapali Resort strip in Lahaina, Hawaii. I recently returned from a trip to the magical island known as Maui and stayed at the Royal Lahaina Resort. The resort was at nearly 90 percent occupancy during my trip, yet it felt very peaceful and not crowded at all.
While I love visiting the Kaanapali beach area with my family, the Royal Lahaina is an oceanfront landmark that seems to cater to the older crowd, or at least the kidless crowd; certainly the romantic crowd. Having said that, the resort is known for its famous luau and kids are a key component of this timeless activity. They even offer a Keiki (Children) Buffet with a kid-friendly menu, no poi required. There are plenty of dining options in the Kaanapali Resort area.
I stayed in room #1226, an Ocean Deluxe one bedroom that rents for $330 during standard time (June 12-August 15) and $400 January 16-April 12. If you are traveling with children, the one bedroom ocean front cottage suite sleeps six and rents for $475 during standard season. Check the Royal Lahaina Resort’s website for internet specials.
Travel Tip: the even side numbered rooms offer more views of the ocean. FYI, internet access is $9.95 per day, but there is a complimentary computer and printer in the concierge office on property.
If you are thinking about a sailing trip during your visit, you might enjoy a ride on the Teralani Catamaran for snorkeling in the protected Marine Preserve of Honolua Bay. We only had 14 people on our excursion, not including the crew, so it felt like our own private charter. We swam with sea turtles and saw more tangs and tropical fish than you’ll see in your local aquarium.
