New Luxury Allison Inn & Spa in Oregon Wine Country
Sure, Napa Valley is the grandfather of wine country in the United States, but with many other regions of the country jumping on the grape-growing bandwagon, travelers now have plenty of other options for combining luxury travel with wine tasting. For many, a wine-centric vacation is just a road trip away.
Take, for instance, The Allison Inn & Spa in Newburg, Oregon, set to open in August this year. It’s a luxury hotel (just 85 rooms) set on 35 acres with facilities for conferences and a working vineyard. Just reading about the hotel’s plans makes me want to reserve a room this fall — in time for grape harvest and crush. Room rates start at $295/night, which (surprisingly) aren’t outrageous, but (for me anyway) ranks in the “special occasion celebration vacation” category.
The Allison Inn is named for 300-square-mile Lake Allison which covered the Willamette Valley during the Ice Age. Its location gives visitors convenient access to more than 200 area vineyards and wineries, plus tons of opportunity for outdoor activity, like hiking and biking the country roads.
Inn highlights:
- Spacious rooms, a minimum of 500 square feet.
- Spa with treatments featuring indigenous products (think berry and nut scrubs), plus wine-based treatments
- Environmentally friendly developers seeking LEED certification, with green initiatives that include solar hot water, recyclable roof materials and no plastic bottles on the property
- Lots of natural elements, like reclaimed limestone, slate and Northwest timber
