Hacienda San Angel
Only a short distance from the beaches of Puerto Vallarta is an opportunity to step back in time to old Mexico. Consisting of five villas, the Hacienda San Angel is located on a hillside above Puerto Vallarta, with sweeping views of the city and the Bay of Banderas. It’s the perfect spot to stage your Puerto Vallarta vacation or your retreat from the world.
The colonial-style hacienda has been beautifully restored, and is furnished with elegant antiques that add to the feeling of staying somewhere special. Each room in this 21-room boutique hotel is decorated differently, and all have amazing views, either of the hotel gardens or the surrounding city and ocean.
Rates start at $395 per night, but vary depending on the room and time of year. A three-night minimum is required (holiday season has a seven-night minimum requirement), however shorter stays may be available upon request.
A stay here includes deluxe continental breakfast daily in the hacienda’s restaurant, but the best time to be in the open-air restaurant is at night for dinner, when daylight fades with the sunset and the lights of the city slowly appear. Nightly mariachi cocktail hours in the lush garden setting add to the feeling of being away from it all—even the city outside the Hacienda doors.
I could spend all day lounging at one of the Hacienda’s three pools or eating yummy dishes from the restaurant’s menu. If you can’t keep your feet still, just steps away is Puerto Vallarta’s Old Town, full of cultural attractions, shopping opportunities and beachside restaurants.

Disclosure: My stay at the Hacienda San Angel was sponsored by the Puerto Vallarta Convention and Visitors Bureau, however the opinions are my own, and there was no promise of type of coverage.
