This past weekend, my family and I had the chance to visit the luxurious Mountain View Grand, in the White Mountains in New Hampshire. The lodge, which is the only resort to receive four diamonds from AAA in both the dining and lodging categories, has the best of both worlds – activities for kids, and activities for adults.
We traveled with our five-year old and three-year old, who were immediately intrigued by the old-style elevator complete with hand crank and personal elevator operator. Our room was large, with a king-sized bed, and a pull-out couch for the kids. But it was the bathroom that really impressed us – it was huge, with a large tub and loads of room. Since I’m always a sucker for great bath toiletries, I was especially impressed with the biodegradable toiletries with the delicious scent of fig.
We took advantage of several of the kids’ activities, including the indoor pool (it was unfortunately raining), which was heated to the perfect temperature and not crowded. But, my kids’ favorite activity was the on-site farm, complete with adorable dwarf goats and donkeys, horses, bunnies, and chickens. My daughter also took a pony ride, which she absolutely loved. We went to the farm during the “meet the farmer” hours, so my kids had the chance to hold the goats and learn about them.
We also had the opportunity to eat several meals at the resort and found the service to be excellent. There was a great selection of food – especially kids’ meals. I loved the mussels so much that I had them two nights in the row.
We really had no complaints at all – except for the weather, which of course had nothing to do with the resort. The rooms are nice, the food is great, and the service is fabulous!
