When we visit Hawaii, we almost always stay in a condo. Why? Because we have kids who like to eat cold cereal for breakfast when they wake up in the morning and we don’t like paying $10 for a bowl of Frosted Flakes. We also like the privacy and sense of home that a condominium offers. We look at condo rentals as the best of both worlds; the convenience of a residence with a fully-equipped kitchen and a bbq and the amenities of a resort hotel.

I recently stayed at the Ka’anapali Ali’i as a guest of the Kaanapali Beach Resort Association. I was in Maui to watch the Wa’a Kiakahi Races and support the members of the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Association. Of course, I’m the first to admit that I was also there to snorkel with the tropical fish and walk the golden sands of Ka’anapali Beach Resort. FYI, the beach in front of the condo has a shallow area and then drops off to about five feet. The snorkeling is best if you walk 15-20 minutes on the beach front path toward the Sheraton at Black Rock.

I stayed in room #482, a one bedroom Ocean View Premier condo that rents for $645 during the regular season and $615 during the ‘value’ season, (April 18-May 31 and August 22-December 19, 2009.) The luxury condo, with new appliances and granite counter tops, was spacious and had a stellar view of the pool and ocean. The above picture was taken from the balcony. In addition to the master bedroom, with an ocean view, the den has a full bed that closes off and could accomodate two kids or another guest.

Located ten minutes away from the historic Lahaina town, Ka’anapali Ali’i is a luxury resort condo complex with four oceanfront towers. The one and two bedroom, 1,500-1,900 square foot condos offer golf, tennis, a fresh water heated swimming pool, free on-site parking and private lanais. Families will appreciate the children’s wading pool and complimentary seasonal children’s programs. Plenty of dining options are available in the Kaapanali area. There’s also a grocery delivery service (for a fee) if you simply can’t bare the thought of stopping at Costco!
