JW Marriott Cancun Resort Room with a view

JW Marriott Cancun Resort Room with a view

Thinking about trading the cold white stuff for some white sand curled between your toes? I’m here at the JW Marriott Cancun Resort and Spa, my first visit to this Riviera Maya wonderland. The luxury five diamond resort is dressed festively for the holidays, complete with sparkling Christmas trees and rosy red poinsettias.

My room, #1122, is a Deluxe Premier Ocean view room that rents for a rack rate of $299. US. My estimate is that the 448 room hotel is at about 60% occupancy, so there are some deals to be had in paradise. In fact, the JW Marriott Cancun Resort and Spa offers their best rates on line. Rooms range from the standard king to the exclusive Club 91 rooms, a “boutique’ hotel within the resort. You can also follow them on Twitter for hotel offerings and updates.

In the interest of transparency, I’m staying at the J.W. Marriott Cancun Resort and Spa as a guest of Marriott properites. The company invited nine bloggers to visit one of Marriott’s nine properites. You can follow my tweets about this trip on my twitter feed or you can search for the #blogparadise hash tag on Twitter.

Paradise Found

Indeed, I landed in paradise with an 80 minute Balche Mayan body treatment at the Spa that left me feeling otherworldly. I was scrubbed with a brown sugar and cinnamon exfoliation-base, followed by a relaxing massage with a mixture of sacred Mayan herbs. Tranquility accomplished.

The resort is the only property in Cancun offering a PADI certified tank. Children as young as eight years old can learn and be scuba certified in the sheltered environment of the Cancun Marriott simulated corral reef pool.

The resort offers plenty of places to get wet; from direct shore access to the Caribbean Ocean, to the adult -only pool (with swim up bar),  to the pool next to the Beach walk  restaurant (with shallow children’s pool), to the infinity pool on the opposite site of the hotel.

If you are looking for outstanding service, the JW Marriott has it under control. However, if you are traveling with young children, you’ll want to consider the CasaMagna Cancun Resort next door. The properties are linked together via a common covered breeze way.

Guests can dine at one of several specialty restaurants on both properties. I enjoyed dinner at the Italian Gustino my first night and CasaMagna’s La Capilla Argentinian Steakhouse  and Sasi Thai the next nights.
