The cliche goes: “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Well neither was the Hyatt brand of hotels, which has grown now to include over 400 hotels. Renowned for their luxury resorts and Regency hotel brand, you’ve probably also started to become aware of their business hotel, the Hyatt Place, which is popping up in metros along major interstates around the U.S. They offer the same Hyatt quality amenities, but cater to the traveler on the go. Hyatt has a new promotion, called “The Big Welcome Back”, in which they are giving away free rooms and award points. To celebrate, they gave Uptake a couple free nights at any of the Hyatt brand of hotels, which we’re giving away to one lucky individual.
If you’re unfamiliar with Hyatt, then you’re probably asking yourself: “If this is the Big Welcome Back, what was the Big Welcome”? Last year, Hyatt did a monumental hotel giveaway, where they gave thousands of free hotel nights to travelers and gave one lucky person 365 free nights. They’re following that up this summer with their current hotel promotion, which lets frequent guests receive free hotel nights or reward points. So how do you receive free nights or reward points?
- Stay two nights at a Hyatt hotel by June 30 and receive either one free hotel night or 5,000 Gold Passport reward points. To redeem the free night, the two nights cannont be consecutive. They must be seperate hotel stays.
- Redeem your free night and use it before August 31st, or elect to receive 5,000 Gold Passport points, which do not expire.
- Stay more than twice, and receive additional free hotel nights or points. For example, if you stay at a Hyatt six times, then you’ll receive three free hotel nights or 15,000 reward points.
Like I said, to celebrate Hyatt’s “Big Welcome Back” hotel promotion, here at Uptake, we’re doing our own hotel giveaway and giving away two nights to one person. The two free nights must be redeemed by August 31st. So how do you enter to win? As you noticed, I began by quoting the cliche: “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Simply leave a comment below with your favorite, or least favorite cliche, whether travel related or not, and you’ll be entered to win. Want a second entry? Then post something on twitter with the following:
- Use the following link in the tweet: http://bit.ly/cPrf2M
- Use the hashtag #uptakegiveaway
An example would be: I just entered Uptake’s giveaway to enter 2 nights at the Hyatt http://bit.ly/cPrf2M #uptakegiveaway
Let’s recap: Leave one comment below with your favorite, or least favorite, travel cliche and be entered to win two nights at a Hyatt. Leave a post on Twitter with the url http://bit.ly/cPrf2M and hashtag #uptakegiveaway, and have a second entry. Entries must be made by 11:59 PST on Friday May 21. One person will randomly be drawn and contacted by email and the winner will be announced on Monday May 24. Winner must claim their prize within three days of being announced.
The contest is now closed. Check back on Monday when we announce a winner.
In compliance with the FTC, note that I received two complimentary nights at a Hyatt.

You should clarify the first bullet in your post:
•Stay two nights at a Hyatt hotel by June 30 and receive either one free hotel night or 5,000 Gold Passport reward points.
You need two hotel stays to earn the bonus of a free hotel night or 5,000 points. Two consecutive nights at a Hyatt brand hotel does not earn the bonus.
You can earn the bonus with two one-night stays, but they can’t be consecutive nights at the same hotel.
For example, Friday night at the Hyatt Monterey with a checkout Saturday is one hotel stay. Saturday night at a different Hyatt will count as a second hotel stay. But if you stay two nights, Friday and Saturday at the Monterey Hyatt, then that counts as one hotel stay even if you book individual nights in separate reservations.
You could also get two stays by booking Friday night at a Hyatt, and Sunday night at the same Hyatt, as long as there is at least a one night break between your two hotel stays.
In my experience the confusion between two nights and two stays is the greatest misconception about how these promotions work.

Been there, got the t-shirt, this is my favorite cliche because I always buy tshirts when I travel!
“What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” It drives me bonkers!
I can’t help but laugh a little at the literary cliche: “It was a dark and stormy night.” I used to apply it to Spring/Summer weather in southern China…It was a dark and stormy fortnight and I forgot what the sun looked like.
Least favorite cliche, “wish you were here.” (If that were true, I would have taken you on the trip.
“I’m going to find myself”
“The journey, not the destination is what matters.”
Speaking of Rome…….my favorite has always been: “When in Rome [do as the Romans do]…”
“What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” So true for so many people, but fortunately I’ve always been able to share my fun vacation stories in Vegas, they are fairly G Rated (except the shows we’ve seen).
“What happens in Vegas….GETS POSTED ALL OVER FACEBOOK!!!!” Love this one!!! A good twist on an old saying =)
Have a safe trip! – why, can’t people just say have a nice time instead?
