For some people, it’s not enough to sit on Kaanapali beach at sunset sipping a Mai Tai. Maybe I’m one of those people? If you’re one of those people who need a little lights, camera, action during your Hawaiian vacation, then you’ll want to check out Maui’s newest must-see – Cirque Polynesia at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa.

This 75 minute show is an audio and visual feast for the ears and eyes and features two of the sixth and seventh generation flying Wallenda family members. While the mother-daughter duo perform an impressive high wire act, 40 feet in the air, I was captivated by the haunting music of Diane Salonga Rubio. Rubio, a classically-trained cellist, flute, ukulele and strings musician, along with musical partner Dan Cruces, bring a key element of suspense to this non-stop, action packed performance. Both the young and the young at heart will enjoy this Polynesian fantasy.

In addition to Cirque Polynesia, the Hyatt Regency has also recently undergone a major restaurant renovation in introducing Umalu. The poolside restaurant is casual Hawaiian chic offering grab and go food, small and large plates and a wonderful ocean view of the Pacific, as well as Lanai and Molokai islands. I recommend the Maui onion rings, Island style hummus with goat cheese, the vegetable lumpia and excellent fish tacos.

While I can’t speak for the hotel rooms, as I haven’t stayed at this particular Hyatt, I look forward to returning with my family to play in the Kaanapali surf and sand, sips a few Mai Tais and take in a repeat performance of Cirque Polynesia.
