Hermann Hill Bed and Breakfast

Located just west of St. Louis, Missouri, Hermann Hill Bed and Breakfast gives new meaning to the term “off the beaten path”. Like many of Select Registry’s distinguished inns, this Missouri inn is situated away from the hustle and bustle. Follow the Missouri River west from St. Louis and you’ll come to the small riverfront town of Hermann, which is one of the most well-known winery towns in Missouri.

I arrived into the town of Hermann just in time to see the sun setting over the Missouri River. That coupled with the passing train made for a quaint backdrop. I then wound my way up to the top of Hermann Hill to the inn itself, which overlooks the town. The bed and breakfast features the main inn, as well as several cottages. If you’re traveling with your family, couples, or a large group, I recommend knowing ahead of time where you’ll be staying, as the cottages are on the other side of town and require a five-minute drive from the inn. Nonetheless, Hermman Hill Bed and Breakfast isn’t your typical inn. The inn features the luxurious accommodations, amenities, and hospitality, that you would typically find at a resort hotel, but at a bed and breakfast.

Both the inn and the cottages provide a welcome retreat for guests. If traveling as a large family, or if you enjoy seclusion while traveling, than I recommend the cottages. At the cottages, breakfast will be awaiting you each morning when you wake and you can eat and go about the day at your own pace. While guests at the main inn can have breakfast delivered to their room, most people choose to eat in the formal dining room. Breakfast is part of the daily rate and includes a warm deluxe breakfast with multiple offerings, several different kinds of juices, and coffee. After breakfast, I found myself enjoying a walk around the patio and vineyard outside of the inn, both of which overlooked downtown Hermann and the Missouri River.

While some people visit Hermann Hill for its retreat away from the busyness of a big city, many people visit for its vineyards. You’ll even find vineyards on the property of this Missouri bed and breakfast. As you’ll notice from the inn and local architecture, there’s a heavy German history that dates back to the 1800s. With it came multiple family wineries around the area, many of which still exist today. Within a half-hour of the inn are several wineries and breweries that are open to the public, providing tours and tastings.

Rates at the Hermann Hill Bed and Breakfast start at $187 per night. Included in the rate is the deluxe breakfast each morning and evening ice cream and cookies. Most nights require a two-night stay.
