FAMILY-FRIENDLY SOPHIE STATION SUITES
Families and visitors to Fairbanks, Alaska looking for a hotel with kitchenettes and self-service laundry facilities should consider the Sophie Station Hotel. The all-suite hotel offers Zach’s Restaurant on property.
Insider Tip: Order the local favorite, Hot Licks Ice Cream.
My room, #349, was named the Governors Suite and was very spacious. The refrigerator will come in handy if you choose to walk to one of two nearby stores. Rates ranged from $75 -$120 in the winter to $120 – $180 in the summer. I liked the free internet access throughout the hotel and computer that was available for use in the lobby. There was also a small exercise facility on site.
ANTIQUE AUTO MUSEUM
Sister property Wedgewood Resort is home to the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum on Wedgewood Drive off of College Road. While I’m the first to admit that I am not a car collector, Project Manager Nancy DeWitt has done an outstanding job of pairing vintage classic cars with vintage clothing of the time period. I loved seeing the beautifully restored photos on the museum walls.
