The Family-friendly Beach at Carlsbad, California
Twice my husband and I have taken the kids to LEGOLAND California in Carlsbad (just north of San Diego) from our home in Colorado. The first trip, it was all about the theme park — two full days of riding the rides, building with the little bricks, watching the live shows and eating plenty of hot dogs, pizza and ice cream.
For our second trip in March of this year, we explored other attractions around Carlsbad, including the coastline. My parting words to my children, as we exited the car on a brisk spring afternoon were, “Don’t get wet!”
Photos taken by Kara Williams, March 2008, during a stay at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa. Other family-friendly lodging options: Grand Pacific Palisades Resort and the ultra-luxurious La Costa Resort and Spa.

That looks like such a fun family outing! It makes me want to go to the beach!
Really, I’ve never heard of Legoland. I don’t even have kids, and I think I’m going to con my husband into taking me!
Thanks for sharing.
Cute set of beach photos!! I love watching kids run to and from the waves.
I’m the worst mom ever. My boys LOVE Legos, and I’ve never taken them to Lego Land. I will have to do it someday soon…
That sounds great, my daughter would be all over it, but i’ll have to wait till my little guy catches up a bit….
I highly recommend Legoland California — it’s just a nice, manageable theme park for little ones. More intimate and less overwhelming than the biggies like Disney.
They look like they are having a ton of fun! I am jealous!!!
I grew up in San Diego. Those pictures brought back fond memories. While I live within eyesight of the ocean now, the North Coast is much different from San Diego. I enjoyed your pictures!
Looks like lots of fun to me!
