I’m a Northern California girl, so when I was driving down the Pacific Coast Highway, I couldn’t help myself from staring at the beautiful people and oggling the fancy cars.  Yet some things don’t change, the beauty of the Southern California coastline and the Mission style architecture of the area.  I turned into the Casa Laguna Inn and Spa and wandered around the terraced tropical gardens set below towering palms stretched skyward.

I arrived early Wednesday to the 22 room Casa Laguna, as I had a conference call that afternoon requiring my laptop computer and a landline.  The Innkeepers were more than happy to accommodate my needs and pointed out the business center on property.  I was pleasantly surprised, as the Casa Laguna Inn and Spa lends itself to romance and relaxation, yet the business traveler will be comfortable here, as well.

I landed in the Laguna Suite with a king bed and view of the blue Pacific ocean across the highway.  Traveling mid-week has its benefits for potential room upgrades.  The Innkeeper pointed out the year-round heated pool with its ocean-view deck and the Bell Tower, the best place to watch stunning sunsets over Catalina Island.

Putting business behind me, I noted the two beaches within walking distance of the Inn. Victoria Beach offers a white sandy beach, while Moss Point is known for tide pooling and caves. For those wanting to soak in the artist’s colony culture with its galleries, boutiques and restaurants, the Inn is located one and a half miles south of Main Beach. While I dined out that evening, I confess that I over-indulged in the afternoon refreshments.  Coffee lovers will appreciate the coffee bar open from 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. My advice to you, save room for the gourmet breakfast.  I recommend the OC waffle and bacon; you won’t be disappointed.

Room rates vary depending on the season with Courtyard rooms starting at $150 while the Laguna Suite can rent for $590 during high season.

Casa Laguna Inn and Spa is a member of Unique Inns. Check the website for internet specials and package rates.  The Casa Laguna is pet-friendly with a $25 nightly charge or you can cuddle up with the owner’s friendly yellow Labrador.
