It’s really cool to stay in a vintage trailer – kind of like a blast from the past. But this retro experience can be quite an investment if you have to buy the trailer and then tow it with you.
There are a few places world-wide, though, where you can camp out in a rental vintage trailer owned by the campground itself. All you have to do is reserve it and show up.
So if you’ve been thinking of trying out camping in an airstream or other vintage trailer, here are a few places that furnish them for rental:
Bel Repayre Airstream & Retro Trailer Park – Mirepoix, France
Located about an hour south of Toulouse, near the French/Spanish/Andorra border, Bel Repayre offers ten different Airstreams to rent, decorated in retro looks from the 40s to the 70s. Some are sized for 1 to 2 people, and a few are for up to 4 guests. Some also do not have bathrooms inside the trailers, so be sure to read the descriptions carefully before booking.
You’ll find lots to do in the area, with the Pyrenees mountains, the historic fortified city of Carcassonne, and several castles to explore within driving distance. Plus, you’re in Southern France, so plenty of wine and food delights to experience.
Rates start at €110 for most of the trailers, with the larger Airstreams starting at €140. There are also discounts for stays of 3 days or longer.

Circus Circus KOA – Las Vegas, NV USA
Most people don’t realize that behind the Circus Circus resort in Las Vegas is a KOA-affiliated campground. Even fewer know the campground rents out Airstream trailers.
Of course for this privilege, you’ll shell out rates starting in the low $100s (depending on season), but you’ll be practically right on The Strip, where all the action is. KOA members do receive discounts.

El Cosmico – Marfa, TX USA
This unique lodging offers a variety of choices from a teepee to 5 vintage trailers, all built in the 1950s. Most of the trailers have indoor plumbing but only outdoor showers.
Set in the middle of west Texas, Marfa is within driving distance of Big Bend National Park, and also holds several outdoor arts and music festivals throughout the year.
Rates for the trailers start from $110 from December to February and $125 the rest of the year. Trailers with indoor showers will be slightly higher.

Airstream Penthouse Park at Grand Daddy Hotel – Cape Town, South Africa
It’s not just a group of vintage Airstream trailers in Cape Town, South Africa. It’s a group of Airstreams on the roof of a luxury hotel in Cape Town, South Africa,
That’s right, this trailer park sits on top of the Grand Daddy Hotel, with each of the seven trailers designed by local artists. Inside, all the trailers have air-conditioning, a mini-bar and satellite TV. I’m told the view of Table Mountain is outstanding from this rooftop perch.
Prices start between R1075 (approx US$160) and R1575 (approx. US$235). I think I’d love to check out “The Ballad of John & Yoko” designed trailer, where the bed takes up three-quarters of the trailer.

The Shady Dell – Bisbee, AZ
South of Tuscon, Arizona, near the Mexican border, you’ll find a small 50′s-themed trailer park called The Shady Dell. Here, you’ll have your choice of 11 vintage trailers to rent, including an Airstream.
Bisbee is an old copper mining town, and the legendary town of Tombstone is nearby, so there are plenty of historical places to visit in the area, like the O.K. Corral.
Rates start at $50 for a smaller 10-ft 1952 trailer with no indoor bathroom to $145 for a 38-ft trailer with a partial indoor bathroom area (no shower).
