- Description of Surrounding Area :Blue Hill, a village of 2000, is at the head of picturesque Blue Hill Bay and directly west of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. The village is well known for its artists and musicians and is home to Kneisel Chamber Music School, Leighton Art Gallery, Jud Hartman Gallery and many other artisans. Hiking Blue Hill Mountain, 950 feet, provides a vista of ocean, ponds and woods. Several small hamlets and villages dot the coastline between Blue Hill and Deer Isle. 25th Wedding Anniversary Celebration!
We carefully read through many Trip Advisor comments looking for that special place to stay in Maine to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We wanted to be in a place without strip malls, tourists, and general hullabaloo. We found it in Blue Hill, which is a lovely elegant small town in the general vicinity of Acadia National Park . . . but not so small that it doesn't have one extraordinary restaurant, an artisanal bread bakery, a good wine store, and a few things to do.
