The Shipman House is located on an quiet island that is minutes away by foot from downtown Hilo; a perfect base to explore old Hawaii and decompress from the hectic pace of modern life.

A peice of Heaven right here on Earth!

Having never been to the Hawaiian Islands before with little knowledge of where to stay or what to see, I can assure you our stay at the Shipman House ended up being the highlight of our Honeymoon without a doubt. The pictures of the Shipman House are indeed beautiful, but I cannot say enough on how beautiful the house and surrounding property is in person. Barbara was the first person we had the pleasure and honor to meet. We hit it off instantly and fell in love with her charming personality; she’s such a gracious person. We met Gary later and enjoyed him just as much, they both are so attentive with providing information about the islands and attractions, then there was the history. Barbara, a native to the island and a direct descendant to the family of the house was so interesting. Not only to listen to her tell the stories, but to see the history so well restored and preserved in the house. You could see her reliving moments of time in history as she told the stories, her passion and love for her childhood memories was very obvious. Gary often participated in the conversations ...
